I have only entrusted my book to a few people, and I have tried
to avoid family members. I would much rather be hit with the hard truth than to let myself
be deluded.
Here is what some of my readers say....
A fellow Grenadian and Professor of Creative Writing, Literature and Caribbean Studies
responded...
"I've read your chapters. I like them very much. I'm particularly interested in the use
of language in our Caribbean writing."
“I hear the voices. You have a great story and a tremendous sense of voice."
From a friend who compares the emotions Force Ripe evoked in her to those she felt
while reading Cupcake Brown’s A Piece of Cake...
"I just could not put it down because I wanted to know what happened..."
From a male reader with whom I have no connections, whom I picked from Face Book...
"... I found it a fantastic read ... it’s my type of book... for me the dialect added to
the feel of the book. I thought it was used enough to feel real but not that much
that it obstructed. I think that if someone is attracted to the subject then the
dialect will be fine and really adds a point of difference..."
From a publisher...
"Although well-written, and appealing, I'm afraid it isn’t something we would be able
to offer publication."
"... your book isn’t in an un-publishable state, just that it isn’t something we can do.
I would recommend you send it to other (more mainstream) publishers..."
